Noncontact Fluidity at Bundeskunsthalle

In the frame of the State of the Arts Exhibition (Gazebo (even if) installation by Isabel Lewis and Dirk Bell, curated by Miriam Barhoum and Johanna Adam), we presented EightOS bodymind operating system as a methodology and a practice for activating the fluid modality in a public space. The presentation took shape of six activation sessions happening in July and August 2020 in the exhibition space of Bonnkunsthalle (Bonn, Germany), where we invited the participants to explore the concept of fluidity both on the physical and social levels in the context of Coronavirus restrictions and the resulting limitations imposed on the public exhibition space. Shadowboxing – Choreography / Video

What can a body do when it is devoid of another body? Can the body dance in distance or with itself? What would this dance be? In this work, Dmitry Paranyushkin and Kirikoo Des explore the choreographic concepts based on their EightOS practice. They are exploring the traces of the movements their bodies leave on and inside each other, conjuring them as they disappear into memory or into a different time and space. Filmed by Ivan Rubio the video below is an excerpt from this ongoing work. Co-Isolated Multiplicities at Milano Triennale

In these EightOS sessions, curated by Joel Valabrega at Milano Trienale, we wanted to create an experience for the participants to explore the notion of co-isolated multiplicity, both on the level of the body, group interactions, relationship to the space, and music. Together with the participants we set up a common body language exploring the notions of confluence and adaptivity. A surround sound setup was used to enhance the sonic atmosphere and to provide feedback to the movement. We also used the sound to modulate group dynamics, playing with the physical sense of cohesion and dispersion as well as the general rhythm. Read more about these sessions in our EightOS report. Modular Synthesis at V-A-C Venice

During the Venice Biennale 2019 we presented our work at V-A-C Foundation. The core of the presentation was the EightOS approach and its extrapolation both into physical movement and into sound. We were interested to invite the participants to explore the notions of confluence in various settings: ranging from Venice streets to public gyms, museum spaces, nature, and beaches. Using the principles from modular synthesis and music-making we invited the participants to explore the aesthetics of confluence both on the level of the body and of the sound. An immersive sound installation by OS/X.Y. with eight speakers was used to create a dynamic environment in a reciprocal feedback loop with the music. You can read more about these sessions in our report on the EightOS website. Here are some photos and videos from these events. Textexture Live Installation

“Text” and “textile” come from the same Latin root “text-“, which means “woven”. The network is the perfect metaphor to understand the inner making of text. To visualize the meaning, to see what the text is made of, how it operates, and — ultimately — to understand how we think. Textexture is an audio-visual interactive installation where the visitors are invited to create sculptures using the language. The participants can either write or speak into a microphone and everything they say will be visualized as a network graph of relations. A special peer-reviewed methodology developed by Dmitry Paranyushkin is used to translate the text into the network in real-time, based on the co-occurrence of words and meanings. The participants are collectively creating the sculpture using their words, shaping the pattern of the narrative together with others, creating a complex web of relations and meanings, revealing the gaps, opening up the new...

Practicing Theory through the Body at MIME Centrum Berlin

In this 2-day activation hosted at the MIME Centrum in Berlin, we've explored the notions of non-equilibrium stability using the body as a vessel to study complex systems metaphors. The format of the session was a combination of physical and theoretical work. We used scientific research and visualizations as an inspiration in order to then explore and develop the ideas further using physical movement. A theoretical presentation would be followed by physical movement experiments, followed by a discussion and feedback rounds, developing the theory further and going back into practice. This was the unique element of the approach where we practice the theory through the body, learning the new interesting ways to activate those ideas on the unconscious level, into the body. We've developed both individual and group exercises that allowed the participants to represent and explore multiple concepts from physics and thermodynamics using physical movement. We also worked on the...

The Flow and The Notion Book Release on Circadian

Dmitry Paranyushkin and Anastasia Pilepchuk released a book "The Flow and the Notion" published by Circadian in January 2019. Circadian is a publishing house focused on open-source artistic practices and operating systems: the authors are invited to present their practice in a way that makes it possible for the reader to engage in the aesthetic or theoretical proposition introduced in the book. "The Flow and the Notion" is an invitation into a collaborative practice: writing and drawing. How can the threads of a drawing find their reflection in a text? How can a text be weaved into a drawing. What could be the common elements in the practice of writing and drawing? You can learn more on Circadian's website for the book. ...

Hacking the Body at 35C3 Conference

CCC is an annual conference organized by Chaos Computer Club in Germany. It attracts computer science professionals, software developers, hackers and activists from around the world. At #35C3 that took place in Leipzig between the 27 and 30th December 2018 we delivered a lightning talk (below) on Bodymind Operating Systems (see the description and the slides on C2L website). We presented the metaphor of an operating system in relation to our psyche and to our body, proposing to question the “software” we run as the human beings (as much as we question the proprietary software that is ran by our devices). ...
