Venture Fiction

Venture fiction is a practice of creating enterprises in order to communicate ideas and not the other way round. Each enterprise proposes its own system of perception with multiple solutions. It is not there to make a statement or to generate profits. It is there to propose its own world, behavior, and episteme. It forms a network with the rest of what’s considered to be real in order to inscribe itself into the everyday life. The resulting structure can solidify in the shape of social practices, media resources, software, performance, products, services, sound and visual materials. Why is it called venture fiction and what does it have to do with enterprise? It is a venture because it accepts the high risk of failure but hopes for the high gain. It is a fiction because parts of it are never real: imagination and the impossible is what motivates it to evolve. It...

Collaborative Matrix Control

A special report on the use of Special Agency's Allocation Matrix for collaborative task scheduling and control. Allocation Matrix is a set of principles, methodologies and a combination of software tools designed to make things happen in a decentralized, open-source, and collaborative way. In this article we demonstrate its practical implementation in the context of organizing 3AM event (performing arts + installation + lectures + music), involving more than 25 participants and about 300 guests. The Allocation Matrix maps the resources needed to organize an event to the people who are participating in it - either with tasks or with a financial contribution to compensate those who give their time to make the event happen. The event only takes place when all the required tasks and resources are mapped to the individuals / organizations that provide the support. The first part of Matrix lists the personal resources required (hours of work). The columns represent the tasks that...

Controller Settings

Readers often ask: how to use various controllers to control the oscillatory flow in Traktor DJ? Here are reports of some findings in that matter. First, if you Pioneer CDJ-2000 Nexus for controlling your Traktor DJ decks, you should know that it's possible to control all the 4 decks in Traktor with only one CDJ. In order to do switch from one deck to another press and hold the browser knob. Also, the default mapping to Traktor is not behaving exactly in the same way as CDJ2000 itself does, so here is the controller mappings file that would enable Loop 1/2x and 2x modes control (increase and decrease the length of the loop set by the Loop Mode button on CDJ using Cue/Loop Call arrow buttons. Second, if you're using Traktor Kontrol X1, you can set that the top knobs adjust the tempo, which is very useful, so you don't have to use...

Your Special

Something is called "special" when it is different or particular. (1) The paradox is that, in fact, everything is special, because there are no two identical things in the world. As a proof: Even when two mass-produced objects are taken (let's say it's two dice cubes) they are never in the same place they can never be used in the same way simultaneously therefore, by means of our perception /and therefore time and space/ they are, in fact, special.   [...

Special Agents and Special Agency

Everybody is special and everyone is an agent.     Every human being is special   even if just because they are unlike anyone else –   hence, the "special".     Every human being acts in the world –   hence, the "agency".     So even if you don't yet know it,   you are a Special Agent   and   you are a part of a Special Agency.     / * There are at least as many Special Agencies around the world as there are people, but there can be even more. */     Special Agency is an open source way of thinking, a certain methodology of proceeding   beyond the limits imposed by     any external context,     authority,     market or institution.     It is a way of finding oneself   from within   and allowing it   to fully express itself   towards the outside in order   to live,   transform,   and evolve.     Every Special Agent acts within the frame, which is constantly questioned, expanded, and morphed ~ into poly-orthogonal shapes, which gain their own frequency,...

Durational Conference #1

This report is an invitation to the first Durational Conference that took place on the 21st of June 2015 at Flutgraben. The origin of the term "conference" comes from the French conférence or medieval Latin conferentia, from Latin conferre ‘bring together’. TED, PechaKucha and various other “edutainment" formats have transformed what used to be called a “conference” into a self-celebratory benevolent exercise devoid of self-criticism. Speakers are expected to pack all the complexity of their topic into an easily digestible, short and entertaining delivery to promote their ideas or their new start-up. The “elevator pitch” rhetorics fortified by succinct Twitter 140-character format is creeping in and beyond. Therefore, there's a need for a space that facilitates an intelligent, purposefully slow, detailed and comprehensive debate. The kind of debate that is driven by a genuine drive to ask questions and to be asked questions, to learn, and to challenge oneself and the others. A kind of...
